2nd book of the "Pinto Mountain Series"

"The evening was completely silent and still when Danielle went out to check on the two horses before bed. Morning's Pride came to the fence expecting a treat when he saw Danielle approach. Taking a deep breath of the crisp mountain air mixed with the sweet scent of horse, Danielle sighed contentedly. She wished the summer would never end as she stroked her yearling's velvet muzzle. A soft breeze skidded across Crystal Lake, making its way to Danielle to play with her hair. Danielle closed her eyes and raised her chin, imagining she was flying on that breeze like a bird or a mystical butterfly.

Then it happened. Danielle opened her eyes and looked between her horse's ears across the dim plain. If it weren't for the light from the house reflecting in its eyes, she would never have seen the grey wolf standing in the evening shadows. Her heart immediately jumped into her throat. He stood just on the other side of the horse pen. How long had he been there? Danielle tried to swallow but there was a lump in her throat. He was staring right back at her. Should she try to stare him down or should she look away? It did not matter which she chose because she could not look away, he was holding her captive with his cold, wild stare." - Excerpt from Book
