PUMPKIN HEAD PUBLISHING______________________ ![]() "Sarah's Promise" by Opel Johnson Preteen Fiction - Ages: 9 - 14 Illustrated by Sara Dudenhoeffer London and Beth rekindle their old bond? Though Sarah did not know exactly what was going on in London's head, she could tell that London at least had vague memories of Beth Robinson. It scared Sarah. For the first time, London's unconditional love for Sarah was being tested. Sarah did not like the idea of sharing her mare. She did not want to share London's love, especially with this stranger. Beth had not had to fight to keep London alive like Sarah had. Beth did not have to earn London's trust like Sarah had. Sarah saw no reason for Beth to suddenly be included in London's love. Beth softly stroked London's nose. Sarah noticed a single wet streak creep down Beth's cheek. Beth quickly swiped at her eye with a hand, put on her cheerful smile, and caught up to Kerry, trying to hide any tears. Not wanting the two women to know she was eavesdropping, Sarah ducked into an empty stall and waited until Kerry and Beth had walked past. Then she went to London's stall. London nickered when Sarah approached. She shoved her head over the door and Sarah stoked her face. She could see the little moist spot where Beth's tear had fallen. Sarah touched it, wondering what was to come. Would Beth move on or insist on spending time with London? How would London take to Beth? Would Sarah still be London's favourite?
