The Picco Forum's BattleDome
On the Picco Forum, where 99% of our game play will take place, there is a board called The BattleDome. Within it are two sub-boards, Dragon Deity Battles and The PreGames. There's just a few things I want to point out, like the rules of using these boards. To keep everything neat & tidy so that it'll be easy to navigate these boards and get the information one is seeking, please do not post any extra posts on these boards! Any form of conversation should be left to the General Discussion type boards.
For the PreGames board please make sure to only have one thread per event you are hosting. For the first post of the thread make sure to include all the information needed to host the event and for the subject like please make sure to give your event an appropriate and inviting title that gives a fairly good idea of what the theme of the event is. It would be nice to have a little (one to 5 sentance or longer) story-like introduction to your event but it is not needed. Make sure that the conversation within the thread stays to your posted information about the event and other people's entries into the event... additional questions and conversation should be left to emails and PMs. Once the event is closed and no more entries will be taken please edit the original post to have (CLOSED) in the subject line of your event. Once the event is judged and the results are in please edit the closed in the subject like to have (JUDGED) instead. Please post the results on the last post of your event thread... not additional posts to be made by you or others, additional comments and questions should, again, be left to General Discussion and or email/PMs... this is why it is important for you to make sure to include as much information as possible. In turn this will keep the forum easy to follow and old information easy to retreive.
I ask that you do not make any new threads in the BattleDome, please only respond to the Battle threads you are entering and keep all additional comments to the General Discussion boards. BattleDome Battles will be posted by the administrator or moderators of that board as well as be judged and run by them. If you have any questions or concerns on this subject you can PM the admin or one of the mods or else check out the CONTACT page on this website for more information on how to get ahold of one of us.
About PreBattle Events
What are they and what is the point? Like breeding season, the battle dome battles are only an annual event (held once a year but sometimes held only once every two years), so what are we going to do in the mean time? Train! Train! Train! Dragon Battles are like the Olympics, only the best of the best get in and only the very best comes out with the gold. To boost your dragons you need to train them through putting them in PreBattle Events, dragons entered in events can earn experience and competition points which in turn help them to gain ability levels. Each ability level a dragon has will make him or her that much more successful in Battle. If you are a paid member you can also gain more Dragon Fortune through winning and hosting PreBattle Events which is a sweet bonus that'll really help you when BattleDome opens for the Battle Season.
PreBattle Events are mini events that pretty much just test specific aspects of a dragon, its speed, or strength, beauty, endurance, intelligence, powers... etc. all depending on what sort of event your enter. Some types of events that may be hosted could be a long distance land race (which dragon is the fastest and strongest runner), an underwater swim sprint (which dragon is the fastest swimmer), a fire breathing competition (which dragon can breathe the most fire the furthest or whatever), or movement power competitions (which dragon can move the heaviest object or most things with his or her mind). To enter an event your dragon must be at least one year of age since his or her hatching date. Anyone can enter events as long as they have a functional account at Dragon Deities (newbie, advanced or premium), but only paid account members (advanced or premium) or moderators / administrators can host events.
About Trial Events
Trial Events are a type of PreBattle Event. Trial Events are sponcored by Dragon Deities and thus the hosting fees like dragon insurance and BattleDome rent are covered. Unlike most PreBattle Events, the host does not stand to gain any Precious Gems from hosting the event. Also unlike PreBattle Events, not just anyone who has an advanced account can host a trial event... mainly because there is not a set amount of Competition and Experience Points the entrants stand to receive from participating in the event. For the most part the host chooses the amount of Comp. and Exper. Points the entrants will receive. The entry fee, if there is any, goes fully towards the purse which is awarded to the winners. Usually the 1st-4th places are awarded the precious gems and the most competition points while in most PreBattle Events only the 1st-3rd places are given the award. Trophies are not given to the winners of Trial Events... as they are TRIAL events.
Hosting PreBattle Events
To host an event like that of a competition or show, you have to be have a paid account on Dragon Deities. To host an event you need to rent part of the BattleDome so you'll have adequate grounds and equpiment for the type of even you wish to run. There is a rental charge as well as a 'insurance' or dragon fee on the amount of dragons that enter, so first you pay the rental charge depending on what area of the BattleDome you want to rent and then you pay the dragon fee ontop of that per dragon that enters. Usually, it is nice to give the winner something of a prize like precious gems, free dragon(s), and/or some form of trophy for winning your event, so you also need to take the costs of that into account as well. And then whether you just want to break even or if you want to make money off of your event will help you decide how much to charge for an entry fee to your event.
Costs to Host
Dragon Fee: 5pg per dragon Show Ring: 75 pg
Race Track: 100 pg
Games Area: 175pg
Race Waves: 150pg
Water Arena: 150 pg
Open-Air Track: 100pg
Open-Air Grounds: 75pg
There are sevent different sections of the BattleDome that can be rented for use; the show ring, the race track, the games area, the race waves, the water arena, the open-air track, and finally, the open-air grounds. The Show Ring would be for dragon exhibition (the PP equivalent would be a halter show), The race track would be for land races, while race waves would be for underwater races and open-air track for flying races. The games area is where the actual battles of the battle dome would ensue... this could be used for any sort of interesting dragon power exhibition, dragon 'wrestling' or other sorts of combat and combat related fights. The games area is dressed up to be very natural looking, there are mini mountains, a mini river and lake as well as rocky land, grass land, and some trees. The Water arena is like a games area except it is only for water dragons as it is a large tank of water while the open air grounds is for flying dragons. You can choose to host whatever sort of event that you would like as long as you fit it into one of the above categories. You can make any sort of rules as you like as long as they don't conflict with any DD rules. ALL Dragons MUST be at least one year old (from hatching date) to be entered into any form of pre-battle event.
Who Can Use These Grouds
Show Ring - Everyone
Race Track - Land Dragons
Games Area - Everyone
Race Waves - Water Dragons
Water Arena - Water Dragons
Open-Air Track - Winged Dragons
Open-Air Grounds - Winged Dragons
Judging PreBattle Events!
How do you choose who wins what events? Well, to keep it completely fair, all winners of competitions must be chosen through the 'luck of the draw'. Take that literally or take the figuratively, it is up to you. However, all judges must take into account what sorts of qualities a dragon must possess to place in the type of event that is currently being hosted. The judge of the event can also be the host, but does not have to be. Things that will alter the equality between entrants would be things like their physical stats, their body type, their level, and their personal and family event history. If the event has something to do with the dragon's powers then the judge would also look at their power stats.
If you look at a dragon stat card you may notice that is has many symbols on it, these are the dragon's phsyical or natural stats. These are probably the most important aspects of the dragon to use for judging an event. If you have an event that is based on racing then the most important stat to look at would be the dragon's speed. If the dragon has very high speed then it is most likely the dragon will be one of the top dragons in the event. But you have to look at secondary stats as well, if it is a long race the dragon's endurance and strength would also come into play, if the race is just sprinting endurance may not play as big of a role as with a longer race but strength may still be important as the dragon needs a lot of strength at the beginning of the race to get started faster than the other dragons. To further this point let me give you another example... in a Dragon Exhibition you would need to look at the dragon's temperment but along with this his or her loyalty, intelligence and maybe even agility would also come into play. So choose one stat type that is the most important for judging on but secondary stats are also very important. What if you had six entries in your obsticle race that were all maxed in speed? Meaning they all had the highest stat in speed you could possibly get (5), how then are you going to judge the event? well, in an obsticle course the dragon would also need to be agile and intelligent to take on all the obsticles at a full out run.
Droplet = Intelligence
Star = Agility
Heart = Loyalty
Wing = Speed
Fire = Temperment
Arrow = Endurance
Diamond = Strength

For Dragon Exhibitions where dragons are judged on their scale patterns and body conformation, temperment and other sorts of aspects, winners are chosen through judges and NOT luck of the draw. You can just have one judge or you can appoint people who have no dragons entered in the show to judge the show. Hosts of Exhibition events may NOT enter ANY of their own dragons in the event. Depending on what the Exhibition states it is looking for within the entrants you can judge the dragons on many different things but in most shows if the dragon can not be handled by his or her dragon lord (dragon lord is the owner of the dragon) or chosen handler (fictious person who works for the dragon lord to show the dragon in shows) then it probably will not do so well in the exhibition so temperment and loyalty stats may come into play. You could also judge a dragon on how much he or she resembles his or her bond-god in powers and colours, maybe even body type.
Other things that may contribute to whether a dragon should win or loose would be his or her level in training , body-type and finally, maybe even event history. If you enter a western dragon in a land race against a western drake, more than likely the drake will win as he or she has no wings to slow them down. Just like a Wyrm would more than likely not beat a legged dragon in a obsticle race... O.o;; But of course the most important things for the event would be the dragons real stats, if you had a very slow drake against a very fast imperial dragon... even though the imperial dragon is longer and probably has shorter legs, he does have more speed than the slow drake with longer legs and a shorter back so maybe the imperial dragon does have more chance of winning the race.
Now, how do you put everything together to determine the winner? Well, you could make it really straight forward and have the dragon with the most stats in his or her favour being the winner but usually events are judged with an element of chance because what if one dragon wasn't feeling so good that day while another was feeling really great? Or what if a dragon had sore fins and didnt want to swim? Or what if a dragon stumbled on the track and another got ahead of him or her? So a good way of doing this would be to use a randomizer of some sort. You could put names in a hat or use a website like Random.org or whatever else thats FAIR and that leaves it all up to chance. For every thing in a dragon's favor you can put an additional name in the hat. But some things are worth more than others so they should be weighted more. One way of doing this would be to go through all the dragons and figure out which has the most chance of winning through his or her stats and then put in more names for him and then go through the list and every dragon that has less chance than the dragon before it would have one less name in the hat. Or you could say that the most important stat would get a name in the hat per level. So if you had a race and the dragon had 4 speed then put four names in the hat, but for a less important stat like strength put 1 for every two levels, like the dragon is at level six in training, then put in three more names. What about body type, well maybe only put in one additional name for every body type that is good for the event... like say it was a sprint and you think that the dragon maybe needs to have long legs and a short back to really get ahead of the others... so if the dragon's body-type incoorperates these put in another name in the hat.
However you decide to judge your event, please try and make it as fair as possible and make sure to explain how it was judged when you give the event results out in the end. To advertise your Event, you can post a new thread in The PreGames board at the Picco Forum as well as advertise it at your castle website. You can also pay other people pg to advertise your event on their own castle' sites. It would be wise to have the entry closure date at least a week after you start advertising to give people time to learn about it and enter. Also, try to provide as much information as possible when posting your event on The PreGames Board like the type of event it is, who is allowed to enter, what sorts of things would the judge be interested in (don't get too deep with this, just a little overview) the Entry Fee, Purse Worth (awarded prize), and any other major Regulations you may have for your event. Make sure to give people a way to contact you.
